Trail

Trail is a browser-based work management app that replaces paper checklists in restaurants, pubs, cafes and other hospitality sites. Managers set up daily task lists, record logs and audits for food safety, opening and closing checks and brand standards, and see completion across all sites. It is sold per site, from independents to large franchise groups, and is part of the Access Group.

Who it is for

  • Independents with one or two sites

Trail has a plan for single sites, priced per site with unlimited users.

  • Multi-site groups and franchises

Tasks follow a hierarchy of regions, sites, departments and users, and head office sees a birds-eye view of what was completed.

  • Operators preparing for food hygiene inspections

Checks and logs are stored digitally with time stamps; Trail says its record keeping is approved by environmental health officers under a Primary Authority partnership.

What it does

  • Digital checklists and task lists

Daily tasks from opening checks to cashing up are set up as checklists, forms and files, using templates or custom ones.

  • Task scheduling

Tasks can repeat daily, on set weekdays or every few months, or be sent as one-off tasks such as menu changes.

  • Organisation hierarchy

Regions, sites, departments and users can be recreated so tasks reach the right people, with roles, groups and permissions.

  • Record logs and mandatory photos

Completed checks are time and date stamped and can require photo evidence, with problems flagged and commented on.

  • Custom audits

Sites can build their own audits; the Team plan lists custom audits and task history.

  • Reporting dashboards and digests

Dashboards, daily and weekly email digests and downloadable reports show completion across sites; data can be connected to a BI system.

  • Daily site performance score

Each site gets a daily performance score that is emailed to the team.

  • Corrective actions and task prioritisation

Listed in the Standard plan alongside custom user roles and customisable reports.

  • Automatic temperature readings

Fridge and freezer temperatures from labl.it sensors can be logged in Trail without manual checks.

  • Event-triggered tasks

Tasks can be triggered for sites from events in other systems, such as financial data.

  • Document storage and policy management

Listed under the Trail Evo plan with push notifications and APIs.

  • AI Co-Pilot and single sign-on

Listed for the Trail Evo and Enterprise plans; analytics is marked coming soon.

  • Offline mode

The app keeps working when the wifi connection is unreliable.
