Introduction
Making food in volume, or selling it to other businesses, creates problems a till or a booking system never touches. You need to know what went into each batch, what a recipe costs to make, what is in the warehouse, who has ordered it and which van is delivering it. The software in this group covers those jobs. Some products run the whole business as one system, some track only batches or only the factory floor, and some are aimed at one trade such as brewing, dairy or coffee roasting. Others handle the selling side, from customer ordering portals to delivery rounds and trade promotions. Pick by the job that hurts most today.
Who needs it
Food factories, bakeries that supply other shops, breweries and wineries, meat, dairy, seafood and produce processors, coffee roasters, wholesalers and distributors. It becomes worth looking at when orders, stock and production sit in spreadsheets or paper, when a customer or auditor asks you to trace a batch, or when delivery and invoicing take more staff time than the work itself.

What to look for
Match the kind of business. The 13 categories here split by trade and by task. A dairy needs milk collection and fat-based pricing, a distributor needs price lists and routes, and a roaster needs machine connection. Start from the category closest to your work.
Does it cover traceability. Lot and batch tracing appears in many of the profiled products, but depth varies. Ask how you would trace one batch forwards to customers and backwards to suppliers.
Factory hardware support. Many products in this group connect to scales, label printers and barcode scanners, and a few sell their own hardware. Check your existing equipment is supported before you commit.
Expect quote-only pricing here. Most products here publish no price, so plan for a demo, a scoping call and possibly an implementation fee before you can compare cost.
At a glance
Across the 13 categories, quote-only pricing is the norm, and the share that publishes a price differs a lot by category. Small tools for one trade, such as roasting or brewing, are more likely to show flat monthly plans.
Categories in Producers & Wholesale
Food & Beverage ERP (49)
A food factory has to answer several questions from one set of records: what went into each batch, what it cost, what is in stock and who has ordered it.
Brewery, Winery & Distillery Production Software (35)
Drinks producers carry two burdens at once: keeping track of liquid as it moves between tanks, barrels and bottles, and reporting to the tax authority on it.
Produce, Meat, Seafood & Dairy Processing Software (30)
Fresh food that is cut, packed or processed loses value by the hour, and it is often sold by weight rather than by unit.
Batch & Lot Tracking (26)
When a supplier recalls an ingredient, you need to know which batches used it and which customers received them, and you need to know within hours.
Food Distribution & Wholesale Management (21)
A wholesaler sells hundreds of products to hundreds of customers, each with their own prices, and delivers them on tight schedules.
Food Manufacturing Execution & Production Planning (16)
On a food production line, the questions are practical ones.
CPG Sales, Trade Promotion & Retail Execution (11)
A food brand that sells through distributors and shops has little direct view of what happens after the goods leave the warehouse.
Recipe Formulation & Product Development (PLM) (10)
Before a product reaches the line or the menu, someone has to decide what goes in it, what it costs, what it must say on the label and which suppliers provide each ingredient.
B2B Wholesale Ordering Portal (9)
Restaurants and cafes still place many wholesale orders by phone, text message, email and photos of handwritten lists, and someone at the supplier types them in again.
Farm-to-Business & Local Food Marketplaces (business-facing) (6)
Farms and small producers want to sell directly to restaurants, grocers and food hubs, but those buyers do not want to negotiate with dozens of separate growers.
A coffee roaster has two sets of records to keep.
Food Warehouse & Inventory Management (3)
A food warehouse is not an ordinary one.
Route Planning & Delivery for Distributors (3)
A distributor with its own vans has to decide which driver takes which drops, in what order, and then prove each delivery happened.
