Pricing, Revenue Management & Dynamic Pricing

Introduction

Menu prices are usually set once and left, even though demand changes by hour, day and table. Software in this category adjusts or optimises what you charge. One kind recommends store-level menu prices to a chain and pushes them to the till. Another changes drink prices during service, showing them on screens like a stock market. A third adds paid upgrades to a reservation, such as a chosen table or pre-ordered extras, with prices that vary by demand. These are narrow tools. Each one affects a small part of revenue, so weigh the extra income against the guest reaction.

Who needs it

Busy upscale venues with a few tables that fill first, bars that want to move high-margin drinks, and chains that set prices across many stores. It becomes worth considering when demand is uneven and you already know which items or tables sell out. Most independents will not need it.

What to look for

  • Which revenue it touches. Tablz targets seat upgrades, The Drink Exchange targets drink prices, and RMS targets menu pricing across many stores. They solve different problems.

  • Works with your reservation or till. Tablz sits alongside an existing reservation system, and RMS pushes prices to the till. Check compatibility with what you use.

  • How guests will react. Prices that move during service can surprise diners. Look for controls such as price caps and an on and off switch.

  • Fixed fee or profit share. Tablz offers a plan with no monthly cost that shares fees with the venue. Others are quote only.
