Tip Pooling & Tip Distribution

Introduction

Tips are shared between servers, bar staff, kitchen and hosts under rules that change from one venue to the next, and working out the split by hand after a busy night is slow and open to argument. Tip software covers two related jobs. One is calculation: it reads sales and hours from the POS, applies your pooling rules and produces each person's share. The other is collection and payout: guests tip by scanning a QR code, and staff are paid quickly to a card or bank account. Some products do one job, some both. Tax and legal treatment of tips varies by country, so check the rules where you trade.

Who needs it

Restaurants, bars, hotels and cafes where tips are pooled or where staff are still paid in cash at the end of a shift. It is worth looking at when the split takes a manager time every week, when staff query the numbers, or when you want to offer cashless tipping without a card machine prompt.
