Demand Forecasting

7 products listed

Introduction

Over-prep wastes food and under-prep loses sales, and both come from guessing how busy tomorrow will be. Demand forecasting software predicts sales by day, hour or menu item, using your POS history and outside signals such as weather, holidays and local events. It then turns the forecast into practical output: prep lists, suggested supplier orders, and sometimes labour budgets and staff schedules. Some products focus purely on forecasts, while others build forecasting into a wider kitchen or store operations platform aimed at grocers as well as restaurants.

Who needs it

Multi-site restaurant and quick-service operators with steady POS data, and franchise groups that want a common way to plan prep and ordering. It becomes worth having when you throw away prepared food regularly or run short of popular items during the rush.

What to look for

  • POS data connections. Forecasts depend on your sales history, so check the tills the product connects to and how far back it reads.

  • Forecast level: sales, item or labour. Some predict total sales only. Others go down to item level or labour hours, which is more useful for prep and rotas.

  • What the forecast triggers. Look for prep lists, ordering suggestions or schedules, rather than only a chart.

  • Restaurant or grocery focus. Some products target grocery and convenience stores, with expiry and replenishment tools. Others are built for restaurant kitchens.

  • Self-serve tier or sales-led. A couple of products have a per-location price or a self-serve tier, while five of the seven profiled are quote only.

At a glance

Of the 7 profiled products, 5 are quote only. One publishes a per-location monthly price for forecasts alone, with more charged when scheduling is added, and one has a self-serve tier through a point-of-sale partner.
