Brewery Taproom & Winery Tasting Room

Introduction

Making drinks and selling them are two different jobs, and this category covers both. On the making side, software records batches, tanks, barrels and kegs, and produces the excise or duty reports that authorities require. On the selling side, it runs the taproom or tasting room till, wine or beer clubs, online shops and visit bookings. Some products do only one half, such as keg tracking or wine club billing. Others join production, sales and accounting in one system built on a large business platform. Rules for excise, shipping alcohol and direct sales differ by country and state, so buyers should check what each product covers.

Who needs it

Breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries that sell direct to visitors, run a club or send stock to wholesalers usually need this. It becomes worth having when batch records or duty returns take days to assemble, or when club members and tasting room sales sit in separate systems.

What to look for

  • Production side or direct sales side. Some products track batches, inventory and duty reports. Others focus on the till, club and online shop. Few in this list cover both, so decide which problem is bigger.

  • Duty and compliance reports for your country. Products advertise US, UK, French or other reports. A product built for one regime may not produce another.

  • Fee basis: flat, volume or sales. Some charge by beer or wine output, some by annual direct-to-consumer revenue plus a transaction fee, and one by a percentage of sales. The cheapest at your size may not be at twice your size.

  • Offline and hardware needs. A few tills work offline or on an iPad only. Ask what happens when the connection drops at a busy event.

  • Contract length before a full season. Terms range from rolling monthly to twelve months. Check before you commit to a full season.
