Introduction

Sending a special offer by hand to a list of guests takes an hour you do not have, and it goes out once. Marketing automation software sends messages for you when something happens: a first visit, a birthday, thirty days without an order. It covers email, text messages and push notifications (alerts that appear on a guest's phone from your app). Most tools build the list from your bookings, orders or WiFi sign-ups, then let you write a message or pick a template. Some sit inside a wider suite with a website and ordering, and others are stand-alone campaign tools. Results depend on the quality of the guest list behind them.

Who needs it

Restaurants, cafes and bars that hold guest contact details and have quiet periods to fill. It becomes worth having when your list is large enough that manual sending is a chore, or when you want repeat visits from lapsed guests without a marketing employee.
